Keymaster11/06/2020 at 2:00 pm #22138The Intel Core i7-1165G7 is a higher-end model in the 2020 11th Gen Intel Core G-series lineup. Besides the quad-core i7-1165G7, the lineup also includes the slower but more budget friendly mid-range quad-core i5-1135G7 and lower-mid-range dual-core i3-1115G4.
Overall, there are no big differences between these chips when it comes to performance in the usual daily computing tasks of the typical home and office users. But the i5-1135G7, and especially the i7-1165G7, can deliver quicker operation in heavier duties like media production.
It can be said that the i7-1165G7 is for those who want to maximize speed without entering the high-performance laptop processor category. The category is occupied by powerful chips such as the Intel Core H-series, which are pricier, more power-hungry, and run hotter than the mainstream Core G-series.
As for graphics processing, the i7-1165G7 and i5-1135G7 provide faster 3D gaming performance their i3-1115G4 sibling. That’s because they feature the Intel Iris Xe graphics instead of the weaker Intel UHD G4 of the Core i3. Nevertheless, these integrated graphics processors are good only for light gaming. They lag a lot behind the full-blown gaming-class video cards, such as those from the Nvidia GeForce GTX or RTX series.

Keymaster05/03/2021 at 8:47 am #22148The processor is excellent for photo editing. For the best performance there are faster H-series i7 and corresponding AMD Ryzen 7 H-series processors you can typically find in gaming laptops. They can primarily speed up image exports. But they consume more battery and run hotter. 16GB RAM is a very decent size, I don’t think you will need more than that. Having fast SSD storage is a plus too. The machine is definitely excellent for photo editing.

Keymaster08/13/2021 at 10:59 am #22144The i7-1165G7 is more power efficient than the i7-8750H (15 vs 45 Watts) while offering very similar overall performance. But you should keep in mind that laptops with the i7-1165G7 and other G and U series Core processors are aimed at mainstream laptops while the i7-8750H and other H series chips are used in gaming and other laptops with better cooling. Chances are you’ll have less performance throttling on a gaming laptop with an H series processor and good cooling than on a thinner laptop with a G / U series CPU and weaker fans. This is important when you have a high CPU load for a longer periods of time, like during video file exports in video editing software or in CPU-intensive gaming.

Keymaster03/05/2024 at 8:15 am #22139It’s Windows 11 compatible for sure, but we will see whether Windows 12 has some special requirements that a good and relatively recent processor like the 11th Gen Core i7-1165G7 can’t meet. Win 12 hasn’t been announced yet, but I believe they won’t make any revolutional changes that a decent CPU from 2020 can’t handle.
