Keymaster12/31/2019 at 12:53 am #22486The Intel Celeron N4020 is one of the most budget-friendly and power-efficient laptop processors. This 6-Watt chip for affordable laptops isn’t as fast as the popular 15-Watt mid-range CPUs, such as those from the Intel Core U or AMD Ryzen U series. But, the Intel Celeron N4020 can be a decent solution for many laptop users who don’t regularly do heavy tasks like video editing. It can handle fairly well web browsing, work on Office documents, media playback, and other daily computing tasks. As for gaming, the Intel UHD 600 graphics of the Celeron N4020 is one of the weakest solutions. It can be used only for the lightest games.

Keymaster03/13/2021 at 10:06 pm #22527Hi, need your help please.
Which do you think is a good choice?
Intel Core M3 8100Y 8GB 256GB SSD $444
or
Intel N4020 4GB 128GB eMMC $516
or
Intel Core N4100 6GB 128GB SSD $332?
This is for just daily Skype with some office task using Google suite and MS Office.
Thank you and have a great day.

Keymaster03/13/2021 at 10:16 pm #22526In my opinion, the first one with the M3 8100Y / 256GB SSD / 8GB RAM is the best among the three, considering the specs and price. N4020 and N4100 both belong to Celeron entry-level processor series, while the Core M3 is a lower-mid-range CPU with noticeably better performance than Celeron (although not as good as the popular mid-range Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 series). With the M3, you can have a fairly decent user experience in term of smoothness. Also, these decent SSD and RAM capacities are another good selling points.

Keymaster05/29/2021 at 1:01 pm #22524The 2nd N4000, 4gb ram, 256gb ssd option is far better for everyday and internet use, solely because of the SSD storage instead of HDD storage. SSD is much faster when opening programs, booting-up Windows, and other common operations. The N4020 is only slightly faster than the N4000, but HDD is a major performance bottleneck. You’ll however have less storage space with the SSD, but if you don’t store a lot of big files, it’s fine.

Keymaster06/16/2021 at 8:00 pm #22519Your listed tasks are quite light, so the Celeron can handle them, but it won’t perform smoothly. For a smooth user experience, you’ll have to choose either the i3 or Ryzen 5. These two will perform similar in these light tasks, but the Ryzen 5 is better if you sometimes do heavier stuff like video editing. In all cases, I would also recommend to avoid laptops with HDD storage and get one with much faster SSD storage.

Keymaster04/11/2022 at 12:31 pm #22507There are so many laptop models to choose from. For design software, which oftentimes requires excellent processor and graphics performance I would recommend a gaming laptop, since they have powerful H-series processors and dedicated video cards like Nvidia GeForce GTX / RTX. And they are not as expensive as the design/engineering-centric mobile workstation-class laptops. For good performance, an SSD drive instead of HDD is a must, as well as at least 8GB RAM, preferably 16GB or more. For design you also need a laptop with an IPS wide viewing angle display and preferably a display with a good color gamut and accuracy.
Other tasks you mentioned are typical light tasks, that don’t require these high-end CPU and graphics specs.

Keymaster05/31/2022 at 4:00 pm #22503It’s able to do office tasks an multimedia playback, which are usually light. However, the N4020 is a very basic processor ao you may be experience some slowdowns here and there. Also, keep i mind that the display of this budget HP laptop is a TN type, meaning the viewing angles are much narrower than on the IPS screens of pricier models. That can be troublesome for movie watching.

Keymaster11/17/2022 at 7:53 pm #22500I haven’t used Zoom on such a weak processor, but I would avoid that if you are going to have important Zoom meetings. The laptop specs do meet the minimum Zoom requirements, but you may experience lower video frame rates (choppiness) when screen sharing or similar actions. Also, the virtual background Zoom feature is more computing-intensive so it requires a better CPU, namely Intel Core i3, i5, i7 or Ryzen 3, 5, 7. RAM size of 4GB is also weak, but it’s good enough for Zoom, if you don’t run other tasks in the background, Otherwise, at least 8GB is recommended.

Keymaster10/23/2023 at 8:13 am #22493Yes, it can. However, it is an entry-level processor, meaning it won’t run as smooth as the popular mid-range CPUs like the Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 or AMD Ryzen 3 / 5 / 7. The difference can be especially big if you run many browser tabs at the same time. I would say the N4020 can handle up to 5 browser tabs without major hiccups.
